Inspired to Impact is the theme of this edition of the MVmag. While there are so many inspirational moments of impact to mention, I want to take this opportunity to share a few of them.

CLASS OF 2019

The Mount Vernon community celebrated the Class of 2019, our 13th graduating class. Affirming their work of inquiry, innovation, and impact, these students differentiated themselves from the millions of students across the country. These changemakers have quite a Mustang story to tell — pitching to Fortune 100 companies, creating solutions for major non-profits, trekking the world during Interim Term, conducting courageous conversations with external experts, and serving others with compassionate hearts.

Also, as a newer Upper School, the list of colleges and universities continues to expand. The Class of 2019 received acceptance to Brown, Naval Academy, NYU, Washington & Lee, Lafayette, American, Miami, High Point, Auburn, TCU, Washington St., Bucknell, Arizona, Citadel, George Washington, Wake Forest, SMU, Tennessee, USC, Georgia, and Georgia Tech to name a few. Matter of fact, 62% will be attending college outside the state of Georgia. Scholarships total more than $3.6 million, excluding the HOPE Scholarship. The average GPA for the Class of 2019 is 3.9. More than their achievements, we are unleashing on the world a great group of kind, empathetic, and influential people, ready to design a better world.

AN HISTORIC YEAR

If you have not been on the Upper Campus lately, you will see a dramatic transformation as the construction fence was removed, sod has been rolled out, trees planted, and sidewalks poured. You can now see how the new Upper School building has become a flagship, adding a great deal of value to our beloved community. While it has been fun to see the excitement of students, teachers, and parents on tours throughout the year, I have started posting Instagram clips of unique stories and partnerships throughout the building. The Upper School project should be complete in June and ready for students in August. Stay tuned for a series of grand openings scheduled for the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year. We are equally excited for the Middle School students to move out of the modular buildings into their new space and for the Preschool and Lower School to spread out on the Lower Campus.

Keeping pace with the massive redevelopment and influx of residents in and around the Sandy Springs area, Mount Vernon is attracting more prospective families throughout Atlanta. Due to the high demand, the School surpassed another enrollment marker of enrolling more than 1,000 students in PS-12 for the 2019-2020 school year. This reflects a record enrollment for the ninth straight year in a row.

What an historic year! Navigating the twists and turns together, I am grateful to be connected to engaging students, passionate teachers, and supportive parents. Thank you for inspiring us to make an impact each and every day.

Get ready for our next chapter in Mount Vernon’s story of innovation and impact.
