Hi! I’m Shann and I’m an Early Prekindergarten teacher at Mount Vernon and the mother of two boys. When I started my blogging journey (January 2018) they were 2 and 5 years old. What I love most about it is that I never thought I would be a blogger. One day it just hit me as I was following all these pages and blogs on educational topics. I realized, I’m already doing all these types of things but I just haven’t been documenting them. So I started a blog!

The name of my blog is Learn as you Play. I believe that PLAY is a huge part of children’s learning and development. Children should be active and involved in their learning. My goal is for my children and the children I teach to develop a love for learning while having fun. Playing helps young children’s brains to develop and for their language and communication skills to mature. Play is what pulls together the logical and creative parts of the brain. Through play, children can develop social and cognitive skills, mature emotionally, and gain the self confidence required to engage in new experiences and environments.

When I first started, I was posting reviews of my kids’ educational toys, loose parts, and board games. Then, I added activities I do with my kids and my class. Next thing I knew, people started following me and engaging with my content. After my first viral video, which went to 1.5 million views, I fell in love with blogging! So far, my biggest viral has reached just under 8 million people. I still have so much to learn about the blogging world and I am excited to see what happens in 2019. I started blogging one year ago and I can proudly say that I have 97,000 followers on Facebook. I look forward to continue growing all of my social media avenues this year!
